Beginner · from your first sound to playing independently

Your first step with the jaw harp

More than watching videos.
Understand exactly what you are practising.

Beginner takes you from a correct grip and clean sound through rhythm to deliberate work with striking, breathing and tone. You separate each skill first, then begin combining them.

Also suitable for improvers. If you already play, the structured method will strengthen your foundations, clarify terminology and give your practice a system. The final self-assessment shows what you can do and what to revisit.

How you will learn

  1. Watch and try

A short demonstration, a clear process and one specific skill. You begin with the grip, placing the jaw harp and striking correctly.

  2. Say the rhythm first

Use Konnakol syllables to learn the rhythm with your voice. Rhythm Trainer helps you keep a steady pulse at your own tempo.

  3. Practise each layer

Striking, breathing and tone each have their own trainer. If your playing falls apart, slow down and return to one skill.

  4. Combine them in your playing

Gradually add breathing and sound changes to a simple rhythm. Ten additional demonstrations expand your sound vocabulary.

Allow about 10–15 minutes of regular practice a day. Speed is not the goal: stability, control and accurate execution matter.

At the end, you will know where you stand

The final self-assessment covers foundations, rhythm, breathing, sound changes and your first combined skills. For each point, choose:

✓ I can do this~ Still practising↶ I need to revisit this
  • Can I produce a clean sound and keep a simple rhythm?
  • Can I deliberately control striking, inhaling and exhaling?
  • Can I change the sound and identify what I need to practise?

This is not an exam or certificate. You gain a map of what you can do and which lesson to revisit. The basic Rhythm Trainer remains free after the course when you sign in.
