🎵 Voice measurement

Method

A detailed method for measuring vocal pitch and observing the state of the voice system over time.

The dominant stable frequency mode of the voice system

🧭 MORNING MEASUREMENT METHOD — YOUR REFERENCE PROTOCOL

Context: We use voice measurement as a complement to body-based practice, including work with the jaw harp, rhythm and breath.

Terminology: The dominant stable frequency mode corresponds to your morning resting F0 (the fundamental frequency of your voice) and represents a stable point in your personal frequency grid.

0️⃣ Preparation (essential)

  • measure in the morning, within 10 minutes of waking
  • do not speak beforehand
  • ideally, avoid hearing other sounds
(or spend a short period in isolation after waking: silence, no music and no notifications)

1️⃣ Position

  • sit down
  • keep your spine upright
  • hold your head naturally
  • place both feet on the floor

2️⃣ Application

  • open the web application for pitch measurement
  • allow microphone access
  • remove other sound sources: no calls, music or Bluetooth headsets
  • turn off Voice Isolation on iOS
  • Tip: Use a quiet room and stay 20–30 cm from the microphone

3️⃣ Taking a sample (repeat three times)

🔹 How to take each sample:
  • select “Start measurement”
  • during the countdown, inhale on 2 and 1, then hum “Hmmm…”
  • hum a steady “hmmmm”
  • do not overthink it
  • do not try to control the pitch
  • let the system settle by itself
🔹 When to save the sample:
  • the application automatically detects a stable pitch
  • then select “Record”
  • or wait for the maximum 4.5-second timeout

4️⃣ Number of samples

  • take three samples in succession
  • pause briefly between them to breathe and settle
  • do not search for a “better” result
  • the application displays the average and nearest note (A = 440 Hz)

5️⃣ Saved attributes (metadata)

Required:
  • measurement time (set automatically)
  • states — two separate fields:
    • Body: physical state (energy, tiredness and strength)
      +2 Lift +1 More energised 0 Orbit −1 Subdued −2 Breakdown
    • Mind: mental and emotional state (clarity, mood and concentration)
      +2 Lift +1 More energised 0 Orbit −1 Subdued −2 Breakdown
  • note (optional), for example sleep, stress, exertion, mood or voice
Identification:
Email address (always use the same working address), which serves as your identifier (UID)
Privacy information: I collect the data for research and for your own use. Once there is enough data, I will send you your personal frequency grid.

6️⃣ What not to focus on

  • the name of the note
  • tuning
  • whether it is “correct”
  • comparison with the previous day
➡️ Record the reality of that morning, not a performance.

7️⃣ Output

  • three snapshots with frequency in Hz
  • average, nearest note and cents (A = 440 Hz)
  • derived fundamental-frequency candidate ≈ average ÷ 2 — an indicative frequency for tuning an instrument such as a jaw harp, not a musical note
  • metadata (time, state and note)
  • sent by email to info@brumlista.cz
  • backed up in a CSV log for safe storage

Method note

  • do not mix morning reference measurements with state measurements taken during the day
  • morning data = calibration axis
  • daytime data = system response
  • base decisions about instruments, practice or exertion on the trend, not on a single day
  • Since 2026: the application measures Body and Mind separately; for backwards compatibility, the Body value is also synchronised as the legacy state

🧭 How to use the State fields (Body / Mind)

The application now records two aspects separately: Body and Mind.
Each field is a −2 to +2 tendency scale, not an absolute rating.
It describes the direction of change relative to your personal reference point (0 · Orbit).
It does not assess performance or how you would like to feel.

💡 Important distinction:

  • Body: physical dimension — energy, tiredness, strength, vitality and bodily tension
  • Mind: mental and emotional dimension — clarity of mind, mood, concentration and mental capacity

They do not have to match. You may be physically tired (−1) but mentally fine (0), or the other way round.

Do not focus on how you think you should feel.

Record how you feel physically and mentally right now compared with your usual state.

↑↑

+2 · Lift

energy, focus and openness
Use this when:
  • Body: you feel markedly greater physical energy, strength or vitality, as if your body “wanted to get moving”
  • Mind: your mind is quick, clear and open; concentration comes easily, speech flows and you feel a strong mental upswing
In the note, record:
  • what lies ahead or what you have been doing
  • whether the state feels pleasant or already over-activated
  • for example, “strong energy, quick thinking, urge to create” or “body energised, mind exceptionally clear”
↑

+1 · More energised

lighter and clearer than usual
Use this when:
  • Body: you feel physically a little better than usual, lighter and able to breathe comfortably, without being at an extreme
  • Mind: your mind is clearer than usual but not markedly so; it feels like a good working day or a calm day
In the note, record:
  • brief context about sleep, mood or body
  • for example, “breathing easily, calm mind” or “body feels fine, thoughts are flowing”
●

0 · Orbit

reference state, no change
📘 Terminology note:
In Dynamic Coherence (DK) the orbit is primarily a process of return or a regulatory trajectory. On this page, “Orbit (0)” is used as shorthand for a reference point, against which the other states are measured.
Use this when:
  • Body: you are in your usual physical state, with nothing standing out
  • Mind: you are at your usual level of mental ease, with nothing extreme
  • “this is simply me as I usually feel”
In the note:
  • you may write “ordinary day”
  • or leave it blank
⚠️ Orbit (0) is not a goal; it is a reference point.
↓

−1 · Subdued

tiredness and slowing down
Use this when:
  • Body: you feel tired and slower, your body feels heavier and your physical capacity is reduced
  • Mind: concentration is harder and you feel mentally slower, without being ill
In the note, record:
  • what depleted you physically or mentally
  • for example, “too little sleep”, “long day”, “no energy” or “brain fog”
↓↓

−2 · Breakdown

exhaustion and fragmentation
Use this when:
  • Body: you are severely physically depleted, ill or in pain, and your body feels as though it is “falling apart”
  • Mind: mental overload, fragmentation, a sense of psychological collapse or extreme stress
In the note, record:
  • the clear reason, such as illness, stress or physical or mental collapse
  • for example, “fever”, “total exhaustion”, “cannot cope with the day” or “mental collapse”

📝 Tips for useful data

  • Record reality, not a wish — how you feel now, not how you would like to feel
  • Compare yourself with yourself, not with an ideal
  • Body and Mind do not have to match. You may be physically tired but mentally fine, or the other way round
  • The note matters more than choosing the “correct” state
  • If you are deciding between two states, choose the milder one
